Case Study

The scope of works included Highways improvements and structural alterations in the vicinity of Paradise Circus development, including re-alignment and regrading of carriageways, new footways, new traffic islands and junctions, traffic signals, lights and signs, retaining structures, soft and hard landscaping, structural works associated with the repositioning of various statutory utilities’ chambers, shafts and tunnels and traffic management.

A particularly logistically challenging project, work was carefully phased to ensure programme was adhered to and which called for regular close liaising between the Hannafin team, Birmingham City Council and the main contractor.

It was essential that all surrounding city centre businesses remained operational and accessible with minimum disruption, and all roads, bus routes and pedestrian accesses maintained and therefore traffic and pedestrian management was paramount.

Further sensitive consideration for this project concerned the location of a plant room below one area of the A38, housing the main computers and sensitive instruments that control the road which meant vibration from heavy plant was to be kept to a minimum to avoid any damage.
