About the position

ACCOUNTABLE TO:

Commercial Manager

SPECIAL RELATIONSHIPS:

SCOPE OF JOB:

An interesting and varied role where you will be responsible for the on-site management of commercial, financial, and contractual activities across commercial, industrial and residential developments, values ranging from £1m – £15m generally

Responsibilites

Key Responsibilities:

  • To work hand in hand with the Project Manager to ensure commercial and construction activities are aligned and properly controlled to protect the business and our clients, fully adopting Hannafin’s systems.
  • To work closely with our clients and supply chain, maintaining good relationships through upfront and accurate forecasting and pricing and planning of change, cost control, technical knowledge of our scope, and regular dialogue.
  • To measure works in accordance with the Sub-Contract measurement rules and HCL formats.
  • To prepare and submit interim applications and compile a detailed live final account from the start of a project ensuring clear and concise records, substantiation and measures are maintained and collated in an easy-to-understand and acceptable format.
  • To ensure the Sub-Contract is administered correctly and that the client is advised of any potential issues at the earliest opportunity.
  • To actively assist the project team and work closely with clients to try and overcome or mitigate potential problems.
  • Pro-active commercial reporting highlighting any potential problems before they occur.
  • To prepare, monitor, and update cash flow forecasts and payment trackers.
  • To ensure retention is paid on time.
  • To procure Sub-Contractors including preparing buying analysis and orders and manage the account through to final account settlement
  • To assist with material procurement and measurement for same.
  • To assist in work winning and pre-construction.
  • To be professional & manage your time effectively.
  • To assist with the development and training of trainee and assistant surveyors
Requirements

Key Skills:

Essential

  • A proven track record and relevant experience working within Groundworks and Civils
  • A good understanding of SMM7 and measurement software.
  • In-depth technical knowledge, understanding of groundworks and its construction processes.
  • Broad knowledge of contract conditions and the standard forms of contract (JCT/NEC etc)
  • A good communicator and professional attitude.
  • Ability to operate Microsoft Word / Excel and PowerPoint 
  • Highly organized and able to work under pressure

Desirable:

  • Relevant Quantity Surveying Experience on appropriate Construction projects
  • Degree or similar level in Quantity Surveying or Construction Management
  • 3 years + experience within a Surveying position reporting to either a commercial manager or director.
  • Experience in disputes/claims resolution
  • Experience in Main Contracting.
